Sparrow FET College

We are proud to work alongside the Sparrow Schools Educational Trust to transform the lives of children and unemployed youth in South Africa. The Sparrow FET College is an award-winning skills development training solutions partner, specialising in Artisan Skills and Disability Solutions. They are fully accredited with the Department of Higher Education (DHET) and the Quality Council of Trades and Occupations (QCTO).

This non-profit, non-government organisation strives to provide young, disadvantaged South Africans with cognitive barriers to learning, the opportunity to access quality and accredited education. They ensure that what they offer remains affordable, while always imbued with the core principles of sound educational practice.

We were so pleased to receive feedback from two of the learners that we support:

When Hlengiwe Mthembu read online about the Business Administration course offered at Sparrow FET College, she grabbed the opportunity with both hands. She studied between July 2020 and July 2021. She said that her mission when she started her course was to “enhance her communication skills and learn about different elements of communications, so she can communicate better with people she knows and with strangers.” Hlengiwe would love to own a business one day and be a private chef. The highlight of her studies was when a facilitator told her that she’s a great speaker and he is proud of her. When asked about her experience at Sparrow, she explained: “I didn’t face any challenges and I think the college is doing a great job in providing opportunities to many learners across our province. We learn a lot from the college, it prepares you for the workplace.”

Sibulele Mpakati enrolled at Sparrow FET college for a course in IT end user in 2019, and then advanced to the Business Administration course in 2020. He pursued this course because he wanted a better future for himself and to have an additional learning experience before exploring available employment options. His advice to other learners is to carry on studying until they acquire their qualification to assist them pursue their dreams. His future plan is to start his own business. Currently he is planning on working with a local school to develop his experience.
